Verizon Laying Off Former Alltel Workers

Verizon would not put a number to the Thursday layoffs. Spokeswoman Lucie Pathmann said the company is cutting positions that became redundant with its 2008 purchase of Alltel.
Area business leaders bemoaned the takeover because the city would lose many high-paying professional positions. Pathmann said layoffs were in areas such as finance, marketing and legal.
Pathmann said laid off workers can apply for call center jobs and other positions available in Little Rock, where she says Verizon is expanding parts of its operation.

This is why i dont do contracts, much less cared for Alltel/verizon price plans and rates. They was always the highest among other companies. ATT has better rates than Verizon has or will ever get. I was with alltel and each time my bill would get higher and higher, but yet i was on a plan that i not go over my mins. So i dumped them when my contract ended, and went with ATT. After att decided go with sprint. Now verizon and sprint share the same network, but i am getting a far better plan rate that doesnt change than with verizon. All my cell calls to any cell company and unlimited text,web due to company email for 50 a month. 450 mins between 5am and 6pm, after 6 it is free. 99 percent of my callings are to other cell numbers, so really that 450 mins just stays there. For me to get the same plan for att everything plan, i would be dishing out 100 bucks or more! Granted sprint doesnt have the best family plans, as they taylor to company or single rate users. So if your not happy with there rate increase, than suggest you go to another company. But for them to fire people to fatten up there check books is call being GREEDY, others call it captialism. So not sure what to say about that.
