Little Rock - The Lonoke County prosecutor's office says lawyers for the state will ask the state Supreme Court to reconsider its decision overturning the corruption conviction of former Lonoke police chief Ronald Jay Campbell.

A news release Tuesday from Prosecutor Will Feland said the state attorney general's office would file a petition with the high court seeking a rehearing of the case.

In Thursday's ruling, the Supreme Court said prosecutors failed to present substantial evidence to support Campbell's conviction, and sent the case back to Lonoke County Circuit Court. Campbell was sentenced to 40 years in prison after being convicted on 23 counts including masterminding a criminal enterprise and a series of underlying crimes ranging from obtaining drugs by fraud to hindering prosecution.

I felt justice had already been served during the last trial.  If he is not guilty for the charges at hand then why is he in jail now? Jay of all people sould have with out a doubt been able to present his case with out flaws.  Being a law enforcement officer he should know the in and outs of the laws and the punishmnets handed down for them.  If he was unable to do that, then I say he was not qualified to be in office in the first place. With that being said I feel that he owes the town of LONOKE its money back paid to him while he was in office. The city and County should sue him and get back our investments that wete made in him, if he still remains in jail.  No qualifications = Lies  and Fraud.  Does Lonoke have a case?  Hello Lawyers what do you think?
