Little Rock - American Airlines is dropping its plans to bring mainline jet service back to Little Rock National Airport.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline had announced last month it would begin using McDonnell Douglas MD-80s in April on four daily flights between Little Rock and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

American spokeswoman Andrea Huguely said in an e-mail that the airline just didn't have enough jets for the service.

The MD 80 has about 140 seats - which is more than double the number for regional jets.

The latest schedule shows American with 10 flights daily between Little Rock and Dallas/Fort Worth using regional jets.

I think it wonderful that the Littlerock Airport is expanding out.  It will bring nothing but good things into our wonderful state. Now we need more shops to focus on the airport and build business in this area.  There is a lot of money to be made off of travlers and the littlerock airport can use more shops in the area.
