Pine Bluff - An official with St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pine Bluff wants the Catholic Diocese of Little Rock to petition for sainthood for a nun who died in 1839 and is buried near Pine Bluff.

Sister Agnes Hart died of malaria a year after arriving from Kentucky to help start an academy at the now idle St. Mary Catholic Church. Hart served with the Sisters of Loretto and came to the area with three other nuns.

Supporters of sainthood for Hart say people prayed to her in 2007 to intercede on behalf of cancer patient Greg Mattics of Pine Bluff. Mattics spent two months in a hospital until a doctor found the cancer had left his body in what the doctor referred to as a "near miraculous recovery."

At least two confirmed miracles are needed for sainthood.
