Fordyce - A dozen students and a driver where hurt when three buses carrying members of the renowned Grambling State University marching band were involved in a pileup on a highway in southern Arkansas.

Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said four buses from the school in north Louisiana were near Fordyce on Friday afternoon when the second bus slowed, resulting in the two trailing buses each hitting the bus ahead.

Sadler said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. In all, 126 students were aboard. The injured were taken to a Fordyce hospital.

Grambling is scheduled to play Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Little Rock.

Fordyce is about 65 miles south of Little Rock.

What a terrible thing to happen!  I met those busses seconds before this happened.  That area of roadway is the site of many serious accidents in the past.  It occurred just north of 2 very tight curves, separated by several narrow bridges.  I must say that they made a sight, large, new shiny black busses travelling in extremely tight formation.  I can believe that they connected as closely as they followed one another.  I am so glad that the injuies are not severe and hope they are able to continue on their trip as planned.  People tailgate all the time not taking necessary stopping distances into consideration.  Please, ya'll, be careful, drive safe.  We have an enormous deer population down here and they are on the move right now with all the hunters in the woods and they aren't mindful of you and your vehicle.
