Little Rock - A former soldier has been arrested in North Little Rock in the shooting death of his fiancee who was a high school English teacher.
Police say 28-year-old Steven Russell Jr. called 911 about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and said police needed to pick him up because he had shot someone. Officers say Russell led police to an apartment complex where they found the body of 24-year-old Joy Owens. Russell was arrested for first-degree murder. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.
Owens was a first-year English teacher at North Little Rock High School's East Campus.
The U.S. Army Human Resources Command says Russell was a mechanic stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., and that he enlisted in 2001. The year he left the Army was not available.
