The arrest of Anne Pressly murder brought relief on Thanksgiving--but also raises questions about 28 year-old Curtis Lavelle Vance of Marianna--and his connection to Anne Pressly some 90-miles away.
Everyone is still trying to make sense of the possible link. Channel 7 thought we could learn more by talking to folks in Marianna, who knew him best.
It is the arrest that has made headlines across the country-- throughout Arkansas and the talk of the town in Marianna where friends describe 28-year-old Curtis Lavelle Vance as an unusual suspect.
(Marianna resident) "I never seen him with a temper."
(Frankie Williams, Marianna resident) "It's probably very shocking." (Reporter) "You knew him, too?" (Williams) "Yeah, I did community service with a couple of time, probably about a traffic ticket or something like that. I didn't see no evil side to him or nothing like that."
Now charged with capital murder-- in the October beating death of 26-year-old KATV Anchor Anne Pressly.
(Valerie Cooper, Vance girlfriend’s mother) "He didn't give me no kind of hint or nothing, it shocked me. that's why I say it shocked me it surprised. I don't want to believe he did something like that."
Valerie Cooper is Vance's girlfriend's mother--and the grandmother of their three children. They had reportedly been with him in Little Rock, prior to his arrest. She says she only learned of his charge Thanksgiving morning.
(Cooper) "He's got a real nice personality... he and my daughter would laugh and talk and stuff like that.
It's sad. it's sad."With no known history of violence--a motive for the senseless slaying becomes even more perplexing--we weren't able to talk with Marianna police about any possible previous record because of the holiday. However, Little Rock police say they only know of some traffic violations.
