Little Rock - St. Vincent Health says says that up to six employees have been fired for improperly accessing the medical records of slain TV anchor Anne Pressly.

System President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Banko said a routine patient-privacy audit showed that as many as eight people gained access to Pressly's records.

All eight were placed on leave during an investigation, which determined that at least two of the employees had valid reasons for accessing Pressly's records.

Banko wouldn't identify the employees or say what positions they held. However, doctors are not considered hospital employees at St. Vincent, so they were not among those fired in the incident.

Pressly, an anchor at KATV, was hospitalized at St. Vincent after she was attacked October 20th. She never regained consciousness and died five days later. No arrests have been made.

Say It On 7: Hospital: Up to Six Fired for Accessing Pressly Files
InChristSandy
I work as a RN and for those of you who don't know the law (HIPPA) says if I am not giving patient care to a person then I am not to access their medical records period. It is not my business or any other healthcare person's business what information is in a chart if he or she is not involved in that person's care. While Anne was a public figure, highly respected, loved and  we saw her daily in reporting news and events we don't have a right to her records. If you are not the problem or solution to the problem then leave it alone. I pray for Anne's family and friends daily in this difficult time. Every healthcare person knows this law so those fired got what was deserved. Lets be the professionals we are meant to be and bring some comfort instead of gossip to Anne's family and her friends at KATV during this holiday season.
