Our Arkansan of the week is a college student, an entrepreneur and a fundraiser. She's not even 20 years old and she says she's found her calling by chanting.

You would think Megan Long is a little young to own her own business and maybe a little young to be an auctioneer.

(Megan Long, Auctioneer) "I can't sing worth a flip. But, I can auction. Usually, they say if you can sing, you're a really good auctioneer. I couldn't sing, so I was kind of worried about the chant. But, the school I went to was very informative."

Channel 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? That school was a ten-day auction school in Mason City, Iowa--that's where Megan developed her chant. Armed with the skills to earn some money. Megan dreamed a little bigger than working for someone else.

(Long)"I got back and I didn't want to work for anybody. I wanted to work for myself. I wanted to be able to take off when I wanted to, and come back when I wanted to."

Megan set up shop in her grandfather's building last spring. She holds two consignment auctions a month. At the same time she's going to college to earn a business degree.

But she still finds time for charity. On Sunday Megan will auction off toys and other items. The toys are donated from local residents and businesses. The money she raises will go to the Saline County Foster Care System.

(Long)"I just didn't want kids to have no Christmas. I always had a great Christmas. It wasn't fair for somebody not to. It actually started to put a box out, and collect toys. I decided that wasn't enough. So I took on this project."

Megan is no doubt a busy teenager but she says it's more than just keeping busy. She says even though she's just a year out of high school--she's found a career.

(Long)"I'm here for life. This is my business."

If you'd like to donate toys to Megan's charity auction you can give her a call at 501-860-4268.
