Despite rising gas prices and other economic pressures, those factors did not stop holiday shoppers from spending $10.3 billion dollars on Black Friday.
That's 8.3 percent more than they did this time last year. Consumers flocked to Toys "R" Us, Wal-Mart, Macy's and other retailers in the pre-dawn hours of Black Friday to find early-bird bargains.
According to Shopper-trak Corporation, the day after Thanksgiving accounts for nearly 5 percent of all holiday sales.

Black Friday got it's name because at one time it was considered the day retailers turned profitable for the year.
