The Humane Society of the United States says a Huntsville School District teacher's killing of a raccoon with a nail gun should be considered animal cruelty. A letter to the district by Desiree Bender, the state director of the humane society, suggested teacher Jerick Hutchinson's killing of the raccoon last week could be prosecuted, as cruelty to animals is a misdemeanor in the state.

Bender also questioned superintendent Alvin Lievsay's decision not to take any disciplinary action against Hutchinson.

Channel 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?Lievsay says a student's parent promised to bring in a raccoon for the exercise, but surprised Hutchinson last week by bringing the animal in a live trap. Hutchinson later took the animal outside to the back of his truck and shot it with the nail gun.

Lievsay says no students witnessed the raccoon's death and only one opted out of a planned skinning exercise.

Look people. Like Rock&Rollsister said, WE LIVE IN A RURAL STATE, Hunting and trapping is a way of life. I cannot say that I necessarily agree with that particular project going on at school, but I also do not know what the curriculum for the class was either. I am an avid outdoors man, I enjoy hunting, fishing and trapping. I am 100X supportive of killing an animal in a manner in which the animal will suffer the least, but Let me throw a question up, would you rather the raccoon have been beat to death, or have a fight to the death with a bloodhound. I promise that the nail gun was by far more humane than either of the 2 that I just mentioned. People you need to grow up and stop acting like a bunch of school kids. Killing animals is the way that God intended it to be. As it says in the Bible "Arise Peter, Kill and Eat"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
