State Officials Hold Quake Disaster Drill
posted 11:37 am Fri November 09, 2007 - North Little Rock
Officials are practicing emergency procedures so they are prepared if an earthquake strikes along the New Madrid Fault.
State officials, along with representatives from the U.S. Geological Survey, gathered Friday at the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management headquarters at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock.
Governor Mike Beebe participated in the exercise, along with ADEM director David Maxwell. The officials responded to a hypothetical 7.7 magnitude earthquake centered in Poinsett County, with the assumption that thousands of people are killed or injured.
The officials also prepared for massive highway damage, and the displacement of 460,000 people.
