Little Rock - An Arkansas organization is being given millions of dollars by the federal government.
The U.S. Treasury announced Saturday the Heartland Renaissance Fund will be awarded $70 million dollars in tax credits to stimulate investment in healthcare, education and economic development projects in Arkansas.

"The bottom line is, it will make capital available for people to do things in rural communities that otherwise just don't exist."
Lawmakers saw the development is important because it will go directly to rural parts of the state.

"This money will go out in the communities in one area to set up low income housing, in another area it could be some economic development project they may have, in another area it may be something else. So it really is a flexible resource for these communities." Heartland provides loans and capital investments for businesses in underserved areas of Arkansas and has received similar grants in the past.
The Treasury Department will announce more grants for the rest of the U.S. next week.
