Mother Nature took it away, but now a new environmental project is putting it back.
ReGreen Mena is replacing hardwood trees that were destroyed when a tornado hit Mena, Arkansas in April.
Volunteers will plant 65 trees in Mena’s Janssen Park at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 12. The park is located at Maple Avenue and Seventh Street.
Diamond Bank has provided seed money to help buy the trees. ReGreen Mena is also accepting donations to raise the $10,300 needed for the project. So far, more than $2,500 has been raised.
Anyone who would like to contribute may do so online via PayPal at ReGreenMena.com or ReGreenMena.org. Donations can also be made by mailing a check made out to ReGreen Mena to 1135 Airport Road, Hot Springs, AR 71913, or in person at any Diamond Bank location in southwest Arkansas. Diamond Bank’s partners in the project include the Arkansas Forestry Commission, the Arkansas Forestry Association, the Arkansas Urban Forestry Council, the Arkansas Chapter of Sierra Club, Weyerhaeuser and the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture (web | news) .
