Knoxville - The Johnson County sheriff says authorities are still investigating a fire that killed two women over the weekend.
The sheriff says that 77-year-old Iva Beatrice Nowotny and 53-year-old Janice Carol Thomas died Saturday afternoon after their home in Knoxville was destroyed by fire.
Authorities say a relative left the home at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday and returned about a half hour later and discovered it was on fire. The victims were pronounced dead at about 8:45 p.m. When their bodies were recovered.
The sheriff says the bodies have been sent to the state Crime Lab for autopsies, and that an investigation into the blaze is underway.
