Scholastic Corp. plans to close its Maumelle warehouse operation by the end of the year, a move that will put 125 people out of work.
The Arkansas Business newspaper says the company notified Maumelle Mayor Mike Watson of its plans in a September 16th letter.
The company said in its earnings report last week that it would sell the warehouse.
Ronald Williams, company vice president of employee services, said employees have been told of the sale and notified that their jobs will be terminated between November 5th and February 28th, depending on their positions.
Scholastic previously announced it would sell its direct-to-home continuities division to Sandvik AS of Norway.
