LRPD Identifies Theft Suspects Shot by Officers

One man is dead, another hospitalized and a third remained behind bars Tuesday after investigators say the trio broke into a car that police were monitoring.
It happened around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday. Police say they set up the sting in response to a nearly 1,400 car break-ins in the area this year.
(Bettye Yakoubian, Neighbor) “Everything happened right about here. You can see the body the way it was laying half on the street, half on the driveway."
Bettye Yakoubian was shocked to find her normally quiet street swarming with police officers early Tuesday morning.
(Yakoubian) “We counted 22 policemen, and they were all gathered around one person. And you could see the hands going like they were doing CPR.”It all started when, police say, three men from Saline County broke into a car in west Little Rock and stole a laptop computer. What the suspects didn't know is that the car was part of a sting operation by Little Rock Police.
When the suspects got to Old Forge Drive, police surrounded their vehicle.
(Lt. Terry Hastings, Little Rock Police Department) “The driver of that vehicle put the vehicle in drive and attempted to back over one of the officers. They back up approximately 75 to 100 feet over into the grass attempting to hit the officer. Officers fired at the vehicle.”The driver, 30-year-old Lance Stucker, was shot in the chest, and crashed into some bushes at Gristmill Road and Old Forge Drive. He ran a few blocks before collapsing. He died a short time later at a local hospital.
Police found the other two suspects—22-year-old Rodney Warren and 31-year-old Josh Black hiding under a house. Warren had been shot in the stomach and was taken to the hospital. Black was taken to jail.
Police say Officer Eric Temple and Officer Joshua Black fired about 10 to 12 shots.
(Hastings) “We did not find any weapons in the vehicle. They were attempting to back over the officers. That was their intention. It wasn't a case of trying to get away. They were intending to hit the officers with that vehicle. That's why the officers fired their weapons.”Both officers have been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
This is the third time Officer Joshua Black has been involved in a police shooting.
