An illegal immigrant who was the primary suspect in last year’s rape of a North Little Rock girl has been taken into custody. The suspect had been on the run for several weeks, before being arrested Sunday afternoon.
North Little Rock police feared the suspect had already fled the country. But they found him just a few miles away from where the alleged crime took place.

According to a police report, Juan Lopez-Cruz allegedly raped a 12-year-old North Little Rock girl. The report says the two had sexual intercourse 12 times from June of 2005 to August of 2006.
Lopez-Cruz had been brought in for questioning last August, but was soon released. Then, after officers were able to obtain a warrant, there was no record of where to find him.
Nearly three months later officers leaned Lopez-Cruz had been hiding out at a North Little Rock home, where he was arrested without incident.
(Sgt. Terry Kuykendall, NLRPD) “Now it's up to the courts to decide where it goes from here. Hopefully this will give the mother and daughter some kind of comfort knowing that at least he's not on the streets.”The suspect is currently being held at the Pulaski County jail. He will make his first court appearance Tuesday morning.
