State Says Revealing Source of Wikipedia Edits Poses Security Risk

The director of the Arkansas' Department of Information Systems said in court papers Thursday that revealing which computers were used to edit entries on the Wikipedia Web site would pose a security risk to state computers.
Information Systems Director Claire Bailey said the state properly followed the Freedom of Information Act when it withheld the information from two Associated Press employees.
In the filing, Bailey said that security consultants told the department's attorney that revealing the physical locations of five computers used to edit information about politicians on the popular site "heightens the vulnerability of that state agency and heightens the security risk to the state network."
Arkansas News Editor Kelly P. Kissel and writer Jon Gambrell filed the suit in Pulaski County Circuit Court last week, accusing Governor Mike Beebe, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel and Department of Information Systems officials of violating the FOI.
Beebe and McDaniel have asked the court to dismiss them from the lawsuit because they were not asked for the information.
