Little Rock - At 29, Josh Steed may not seem like the typical author. But Josh has not had a typical life.
His childhood was marred by tragedy--his parents divorced when he was seven, his mom died when he was nine, and in his teen years his step-sister was killed in a car accident.
He admits he questioned everything he knew.
(Josh Steed, Arkansan of the Week) "All the prayers went up--and nothing. No miraculous healing, just death. So, my faith was just completely destroyed. Josh's life would spiral out of control. There was one constant, and that was football.
(Steed) “I could put on a uniform, a helmet and shoulder pads and stuff, and go out there and take out all that bitterness and anger and rage on people and not get in trouble for it. In fact, the coaches applauded it.”
But even that would be taken away by his out-of-control behavior. He was kicked off the team his senior year. But, in his 20's, Josh found a new constant--his faith.
He's put the two together in a new book, titled simply, ‘Faith and Football.’
Bringing together his message with stories and interviews with some pretty big names in football--like Georgia coach Mark Richt and Cleveland Browns defensive end Corey Williams--Josh then had to find a publisher. And that wasn't easy.
(Steed) “They just didn't give you the time of day. But once I got people like Mark Richt and Corey Williams on board, I had publishers calling me. It's not who you are, it's who you know.”
Josh has also lobbied bookstores around the country to stock his book. He says it will be released in the coming days.
He believes in his new found career, and believes the message in his book can inspire.
(Steed) “I just challenge people out there to pick it up and check it out. Because there's a lot of tough questions that you'll find answers to in that book.”
