Little Rock - Using art to cope with the loss a loved one--that's what an organization called Kaleidoscope Kids is trying to do.
(Janet Breen, Kaleidoscope Kids) “We see a lot of children that are feeling a little bit lost. Maybe they're feeling a little bit angry, sad or depressed about losing their loved one--having trouble fitting in, feeling different, being isolated with their feelings and thoughts.” On this day, participants of Kaleidoscope Kids have each been turned into young artists, creating holiday-themed platters.
The art project is a way for some to get their minds off their sadness, while allowing others to offer a tribute.
“Because it reminds of me dad because he died on Halloween.”
It also reminds the kids that it's okay to still have fun.
(Breen) “This shows them that we can still grieve the loss of a loved one, but we can still be happy. We can still have good times--and they would want us to. And we can somehow incorporate that into our lives and deal with our grief in all different types of ways.”
The platters will be auctioned off at the Kaleidoscope Grief Center's 10th Annual Healing Hearts Auction, which will be held September 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church.
