Ex-Pulaski County Employee Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement

A former Pulaski County employee pleaded guilty Friday to embezzling $42,000 from the county and was sentenced to prison after working out a deal with prosecutors.
Former County Comptroller Ron Quillin was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 8 years suspended, after agreeing to plead guilty to one count of theft of property.
Pulaski County Prosecutor Larry Jegley says Quillin repaid the money he was accused of stealing from the county and agreed to pay another $14,000 to the county. That sum is for undocumented travel expenses and to reimburse for audit expenses.
Last month, a state judge ordered the release of most of the E-mails between Quillin and a woman who works for the county's financial-software provider.
A judge ruled that the public had a right to know if the personal relationship Quillin had with the woman affected his performance as a public employee or influenced his spending on behalf of Pulaski County.
Pulaski County has appealed the judge's order releasing the E-mails, saying the documents are not subject to the state Freedom of Information Act.
