Jacksonville High School was on lockdown Monday afternoon as a safety precaution after police notified school officials of a barricade situation in a nearby neighborhood.
Interim Principal Kathleen Crumby said students were not allowed to go outside as of about 2:50 p.m. Students who take cars home were allowed to leave a couple of minutes before the usual dismissal time of 3:55 p.m., when school buses leave.
The only students who remained inside after dismissal were those who walk home through the neighborhood where police were working. Some middle school students were among that group.
Crumby said she did not have any details about the neighborhood activity. Jacksonville police say a man remains barricaded inside a house in the Foxwood neighborhood near the school.
The high school has 1,047 students in grades 9-12.
