University of Central Arkansas President Lu Hardin is recovering after undergoing surgery Tuesday for eye cancer. An assistant for Hardin says the surgery at Methodist Hospital in Memphis went well. Doctors placed a radioactive plate behind Hardin's right eye in the hopes of shrinking a malignant tumor. UCA spokesman Warwick Sabin says Hardin would not know if the surgery was successful until the plate is removed Monday. Hardin, a former state senator, became UCA's president in September 2002.
