Little Rock - A longtime business writer for two statewide daily newspapers, Leroy Donald Jr., has died at his home at the age of 73.
A family member said a heart attack was suspected as the cause of Donald's death Thursday, though that has not been confirmed.
Born Aug. 23, 1935, in New Albany, Miss., Donald grew up in Goodman, about 50 miles north of Jackson. He moved to El Dorado, Ark., with his family in 1948 and graduated from high school there in 1953. He attended the University of the South at Sewanee, Tenn., and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
He began his newspaper career at El Dorado, joined the Arkansas Gazette at Little Rock in 1961, and became state editor of the Gazette in 1961, eventually transferring to the business staff.
When the Gazette closed in 1991, Donald went to work in the business section of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
