Hot Springs, AR - The holiday weekend got off to a tragic start in Garland County when a body was found in Lake Catherine Friday morning. Investigators found the body of 58 year old Bruce Edwards this morning floating near the dock behind his home in the Diamondhead community. Officials say he'd been shot in the leg.
Garland county investigators say a homeowner walked out to find her boat dock covered in blood, and a handgun nearby. She called the Diamondhead police, who with Garland County deputies searched for a possible victim.
(Lt. Rodney Neighbors, Garland County Sheriff’s Dept) "A short time later they located the body in the water close to the dock."
It turned out to be Bruce Edwards, the homeowner's husband, who she had not seen since Wednesday. Edwards had been shot in the leg. It's unclear how long the body had been in the water, or what caused the death. Investigators are stopping short of saying they suspect foul play, but add they haven't ruled anything out.
(Neighbors) "We always work this as the most serious case and then work backward from there, so we don't miss anything. We're just calling this an unnatural death at this time, and we're going to see if we can come up with the cause."
