University of Central Arkansas president Lu Hardin apologized for the controversy surrounding a $300,000 bonus during a board meeting Friday afternoon at the school's campus.
Board members spent about an hour in executive session before announcing no further action would be taken in regard to Hardin's bonus.
Hardin already returned the money he was awarded during a closed executive session at the May 2nd board meeting. While Hardin and some board members believed the money was private--and therefore could be used as a bonus--the state's attorney general ruled that the money was public and could not be used to pay Hardin.
During Friday’s meeting, the board’s president and Hardin both expressed deep regret for the situation, and Hardin commended the board for its decision. Hardin also said that as a former attorney, he “should have known better.”
