University of Arkansas center Jonathan Luigs was voted first-team All-Southeastern Conference by the assembled media at the 2008 SEC Football Media Days.

The Razorbacks were picked sixth place in the SEC West according to the media’s poll.

The 6-4 Little Rock product is the defending Rimington Trophy recipient, the award given each year to the nation’s top collegiate center.

Luigs’ first-team selection by the media confirms the earlier first-team pick by the SEC coaches, firmly establishing the senior once again as the best center in the nation.

Luigs, linebacker Elston Forte and head coach Bobby Petrino were in the Birmingham suburb of Hoover today to meet with the league’s media.

Florida was the pick of the media to win the overall SEC title with 36 first place votes, almost double that of Eastern Division rival Georgia. The Gators were the clear pick to win the East with 45 first-place divisional votes to Georgia’s 23.

In the Western Division, Auburn received the nod with 48 first-place votes as a clear favorite over LSU in second place. Alabama and Miss State were next with Ole Miss and Arkansas rounding out the West preseason poll.

On the East, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky and Vanderbilt were picked in order behind the frontrunners from Florida and Georgia.
