What is the most important factor for you when you consider buying insurance of any kind?

In tonight's "Your Money" report Jason Pederson insurance shops with one of the Seven-On-Your-Side volunteers…and tells you how you can do the same.

Dan, one of our Seven-On-Your-Side volunteers, has had the same insurance company for over 30 years.

(Dan Daniel/North Little Rock) "I've liked the way they've treated me."

But Dan agreed to let us enter his information and get car insurance quotes at www.quotewizard.com.

Find enough savings, and Dan says he would consider switching.

(Daniel) "Oh I definitely would consider it but it would have to be considerable…and don't ask me to define considerable…but it would have to be significant savings."

Within minutes we learn that quotes from four insurance companies will be heading our way. A couple minutes later two of the quotes had arrived.

Dan currently pays USAA $276 dollars every six months to insure his 2003 Cadillac.

The Hartford will do it for $303. The quote from AIG is $474. Quotes from State Farm and InsWeb have yet to arrive.

It is not quite a fair fight. A multi-policy discount helps lower USAA's rate.

Other ways to save besides shopping around include raising your deductible, driving safely, and researching discounts.

(Daniel) "I'm like anybody else when it comes to filling up the gas tank. I need more money these days so I would not completely ignore going to a different company. But it would have to be a reputable company."
