A heat advisory is in place for much of eastern Arkansas and the rest of the state is also being urged to be cautious in light of high temperatures and humidity.
The National Weather Service (web|news) said Monday that temperatures were forecast to be near 100 degrees. With the high humidity, the heat index was forecast to reach 105 degrees.
Counties under the heat advisory are Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Greene, Lawrence, Lee, Mississippi, Phillips, Poinsett, Randolph and St. Francis.
For the rest of Arkansas, the heat index was forecast to be between 100 and 105 degrees on both Monday and Tuesday.
The weather service noted that exertion is dangerous during the hottest part of the day - mid-afternoon through early evening. People who must be in the heat are reminded to stay hydrated, reduce strenuous activity and to be mindful of the symptoms of heat stress.
