The idea of staging deadly fights to post them on the internet may seem shocking--but sadly, it’s becoming a disturbing and dangerous trend.
And yes, it is happening in Arkansas.
Thanks to the immediacy of the internet, this online phenomenon is spreading quickly. Arkansas officials are speaking out, issuing warnings to parents, before it becomes deadly.
(Dr. Jayne Bellando, UAMS, Dept of Pediatrics) "For that to be accessible on the internet--and for other kids to be able to look at that as some type of status--it's very concerning. Most adults are not even aware of that, and even know it's happening with their children."
In Russellville, this kind of brawl nearly turned deadly. In a separate case, 20-year-old Robert Martinez is now charged with battery after being accused of using brass knuckles in a street fight on June 21st.
Police say they're aware of the videos, and are implementing a plan.
(Lt. Bob Rawlinson, PIO, Pine Bluff Police Dept.) "We'll be able to use our bike patrols in these areas, and they can get in quick and people don't know we're there, and have other added police presence."
(Bellando) “It's not just fun, but there can be, certainly, dangerous health risks to other people, and certainly litigation."
