University of Central Arkansas President Lu Hardin says he wants the school's Board of Trustees to better explain votes it takes on salary matters after a newspaper article questioned a $300,000 pay package he's been granted.
Hardin says the money, which would pay him an additional $60,000 per year for five years, had not properly been noted in minutes of the board's recent meeting.
Hardin says he will likely ask trustees to take a formal vote on the pay package at a public meeting. However he said it is likely not necessary.
Hardin says he does not believe there was a "clandestine motive" in the manner in which the board voted him the additional money.
