A 7-year-old Prairie County boy is dead, and his 8-year-old sister injured, after a fire in the family's mobile home.
The fire happened early Tuesday morning in Des Arc. Local authorities say the family of four was asleep inside the mobile home when fire broke out. The two adults and the girl were able to make it out, but the boy could not be rescued.
(Darrell Turner, Des Arc Police Chief) “Most folks are just heartbroken...it's just tragic."
Des Arc police say it was the husband--Jason Fox-- who first realized something was wrong.
(Turner) "He was awakened by the heat of the house, and realized the house was on fire."
Turner says Fox and his wife, Amanda, were in one of the bedrooms, while the two children--Harley and Stacy--were asleep on the living room sofa.
(Turner) "He secured his wife outside through this west door here, went to the living room and was able to get his daughter out. By the time he went to get his son, the flames and the smoke were just too unbearable. He wasn't able to find him and get him out."
And, Turner says there's still no word on a possible cause.
(Turner) “Just undetermined at this point. We’ll get all the interviews and get to talking to the dad, the stepmom, and the little girl, and see what they have to say about what happened."
Police say Stacy Fox is being treated for burns and smoke inhalation at Arkansas Children's Hospital.
