Fordyce - Still no word on what started a fire at the popular Klappenbach Bakery in Fordyce. Channel 7 first told you about this story Saturday night.
Fire crews responded to a call about the fire around 7:30 pm. The bakery, on West 4th Street, has attracted a who's who from political circles like Bill Clinton and Mike Huckabee--And folks from as far away as New York made the trip to this Foryce location to sample the baked goods.
Fire crews were able to quickly contain the blaze but not before it left a trail of damage.
(Chief Roy Moseley, Fordyce Fire Department) "Found the fire to be at the back of the building confined to pretty much one room but that one room is burned pretty bad. But there is heavy heavy smoke throughout the building. Contents are in bad shape "
(Norman Klappenbach, Klappenbach Bakery) "We're waiting right now for the insurance adjuster to come and the Health Department to come in and we'll have to go from there. Real fortunate that no one got injured… and damage was contained to one area. We'll survive. We'll survive."
Klappenbach has been in business for 36-years. Damage estimates still not available.
