El Dorado - A judge has ordered that a Union County justice of the peace charged with aggravated assault be tried in Cleveland County.
Quorum Court member Jack Reynolds faces seven counts of aggravated assault and is also charged with intimidating a witness in the case. On Wednesday, Special Judge Ted Capehart said during a hearing that he reviewed media accounts of the case and said it would be hard for Reynolds to get a fair trial in El Dorado.
Trial is set to begin July 27th at Rison and is expected to last three days.
Reynolds was charged after a three-month investigation by state police into a March 2008 dispute. Reynolds allegedly fired shots over the head of Earnest Hampton and pointed a rifle at Dr. J. Gregory Booker during the disagreement on a piece of hunting land.
