Marianna - Arkansas State Parks is taking over the management of the Bear Creek Recreation Area in the St. Francis National Forest, the first step in creating the Mississippi River State Park.
The department says it took over management of the 253-acre recreation area Friday. State rules and regulations take effect Friday at the three campgrounds on Bear Creek Lake.
Officials with state parks and the St. Francis National Forest call the arrangement a "win-win" situation, noting that the planned Mississippi River State Park should draw more people to the area.
