The car-buying experience can be an exciting one, but it can also be confusing--especially if the buyer doesn't speak English.
(Kristi Lane, General Manager) “Usually they've got an interpreter with them. If it's not a child that's in our school district, they'll have a friend with them or someone like that.”
At Fletcher Car Plaza U.S.A., Kristi Lane says if someone needs additional help, they have a bilingual person they can call in at any time to help with the purchasing process.
And, an online program called America Saves—which offers suggestions on whether to buy, what to buy, how to buy, and how to finance--is now available in Spanish.
The group Hispanic America Saves hopes Spanish-speaking car buyers will go to their web site before going to a car dealership, in order to be fully educated.
That’s something Lane says is crucial for all potential vehicle owners.
(Lane) “I want them to feel comfortable with what they're purchasing. I want them to feel comfortable with everything we're explaining--the numbers, the prices, interest rate, things like that. If I feel like they don't understand it or they do feel uncomfortable, that's when I'll call one of my friends who is Hispanic and speaks fluent Hispanic--I mean Spanish--and English.”
