A bride and groom gunned down at their own wedding in Pope County. It happened when gunfire broke out at the ceremony just north of Dover around 5: 00 p.m. Saturday. Two others were also shot.
The suspect is in custody, but it's still unclear what caused this small outdoor wedding to take such a violent turn.
Wedding decorations still line the bank of Piney Creek Sunday afternoon. Just feet away, blood stains the rocks where police say the bride and groom were shot with a semi-automatic pistol. Two of their friends were also hit.
Patrick Paul Duvall, 29, is charged with four counts of battery for the crime, investigators said he stole a truck near the scene, and witnesses chased him to nearby Russellville, where he surrendered to police in this Burger King parking lot.
(Lt. Aaron DuVall, Pope County Sheriff's Dept.) "According to officers at the scene, he just came out of the vehicle with his hands raised."
Locals say the site of the shooting's normally a peaceful swimming spot, known as the low water bridge area. When gunfire broke out, it had been full of kids.
(Lt. DuVall) "Some were in the water, playing in the water. We're just thankful it wasn't worse than it was."
We talked to a store owner just up the road for her reaction to this violent creek-side wedding.
(Carla Oakes, Dover) "It is disturbing, but you see the news, and you see things happen all the time. I'm not surprised by much these days."
Police say Duvall wasn't part of the wedding and they don't know his relationship to the couple. The victim's names haven't been released, but three are still in the hospital with serious injuries. A fourth has been sent home.
