Windstream First-Quarter Earnings Increase

Windstream Corp. announced it earned $123.7 million in its first quarter -- a profit increase of 22% for the Little Rock-based wireline phone company.
Windstream earned $.27 per share, compared with $99.9 million, or $.21 per share, one year prior.
Windstream formed in 2006 when Alltel Corp. spun off its traditional phone business and merged it with Irving, Texas-based Valor Communications Group Inc.
Windstream is the fifth-largest local phone company, serving parts of 16 states. The company focuses on rural areas.

Well, of course their profits increased! They raised their rates! That's what tends to happen when you raise your customer's rates.
