Heber Springs - A woman has pleaded guilty to filing a false police report as part of a case in which her husband allegedly faked his death.
Police say Monica Sheppard, 31, reported that her husband, Matthew Sheppard, drowned in the Little Red River in February 2008.
Afterward, Monica Sheppard allegedly filled out a claim on her husband's life insurance, worth about $657,000.
Matthew Sheppard, is charged in Cleburne County with committing a fraudulent insurance act and earlier pleaded guilty to a theft charge in White County for stealing from his former employer, Eaton Corp. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Monica Sheppard was sentenced Tuesday in Cleburne County to three years of probation and a $2,500 fine.
Matthew Sheppard was arrested in South Dakota in November while walking his dog Fluke, the same animal he was supposedly trying to save when his wife reported he jumped into the Little Red River.
