Little Rock - The brand new Arkansas Studies Institute is a gleaming monument to Arkansas' past. The facility opened Saturday night in Little Rock's River Market District.
The Arkansas Studies Institute's mission is bold. It promises to put the highlights and low points of our state's history under one roof.
(Dale Bumpers, Former Arkansas Senator) "Just treat me like you would any other great person.” The Arkansas Studies Institute opened Saturday night. The twenty- one million dollar facility located in Little Rock's River Market District promises to chronicle Arkansas past.
(Jim Guy Tucker, Former Arkansas Governor) "Its filled with all of us...with our warts...and with our wonderfulness...every bit of it."
Jim Guy Tucker was one of five former Arkansas Governor's who spoke at the gala--the institute which is publicly funded is a joint venture between the central Arkansas Library system and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock--President Bill Clinton says Arkansas' past is worth remembering and celebrating.
(Tucker) "We have to cherish what is ours...this is a big piece of what's ours."
The facility is part museum, part library and its open to the public on Monday.
