Arkansas - Thousands of Arkansas students are officially on spring break. And while that might make the kids cheer... it can also make parents worry about how to entertain their children –without spending a whole bunch of money.

While some will spend it in vacation hot spots…the unstable economy has most Arkansans staying close to home.

(Mike Mills, Buffalo Outdoor Center) “What they are not doing is getting on an airplane and going to Florida or California, or Paris or South America or Costa Rica.”

But saving hundreds of dollars in out-of-town costs could mean hundreds of hours of boredom. Don’t worry, the Natural State offers plenty of natural cures for boredom – and even more than usual during spring break. The Little Rock zoon has spring breakation. And the Museum of Discovery in Downtown Little Rock will have more than their usual entertainment.

(Katie McManners, Museum of Discovery) “During school break, we have a theatrical production of this little piggy went to market. It'll be a lot of fun. Kids will get to learn things about sharing and following directions while enjoying a fun, theatrical production and there's no additional cost. It's included in the price of admission.”

That price is $8 for adults and $7 for children, similar to the zoo’s $9 and $7 prices for adult and children admissions. But if that's too rich for your blood, there are always the more than 50 state parks you can visit for a price that's right – Free!

(Ron Salley, Pinnacle Mountain State Park) “(Pinnacle Mountain) is kind of a natural wonderland. Very diverse. The most diverse state park in Arkansas. You have the mountain itself that a lot of people love. And also you have the open area, the prairies. And then the wetlands, three to five bodies of water. And about 20 miles, at least, of hiking trails.”

There are 2,100 acres at Pinnacle Mountain State Park to enjoy. Next week, kite-flying competitions, lessons about water sports, barge tours on Lake Maumelle, and camping seminars will be offered to park goers.

(Salley) “Besides the beauty of nature, our staff and our hospitality and our willingness and desire to make sure that you're happy and that your stay is pleasant and that you have a memory to fall back on and recall for years to come is second to none.”

A full list of daily events in central Arkansas during spring break can be found on the little rock convention and visitors bureau's website….and it’s quite the list -- proof that spring break options in arkansas are not only plentiful but may be recession-proof as well.
