Louisiana officials have arrested and booked an Arkansas man with felony timber theft.
Department of Agriculture (web|news) and Forestry agents say 65-year-old Harry Massey of Norphlet, Arkansas, allegedly contracted with a Union Parish landowner, Betty Tatum, of Corona, California, in February 2007 to cut timber from her land in return for payment.
The landowner reported that after repeated attempts to obtain payment, she still had not been paid. The LDAF said that a three-month investigation revealed that Massey received $20,000 payment for Tatum's timber, but never paid her.
Massey was arrested Monday and transported to the Union Parish Detention Center where he was released after posting a $7,500 bond.
