Governor Beebe isn't confirming or denying reports that an Ohio-based company has chosen Blytheville for a new $500 million steel mill.
His liaison for economic development, Chris Masingill, told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the state is in negotiations with a steel company. But Masingill would not disclose the company's name.
The Union City Daily Messenger in Tennessee reported Thursday that that state's economic administrator, Kingsley Brock, says the Warren Fabricating and Machining Corp. said it has picked Blytheville over a site in Tennessee. The company did not return calls for comment.
The project includes a steel mill plant, a fabrication shop, a heat treatment facility and a melt shop that would eventually employ up to 1,000 people.
