Conway - The children of five former or current University of Central Arkansas trustees have gotten hefty discounts on their tuition costs and fees.

Published reports reveal that the school identified current or former board members who have children who received 80% discounts on their tuition and fees since sometime after 2002. That's when Lu Hardin was hired as UCA president. Hardin resigned last year after criticism over the board of trustees secretly awarding him a $300,000 bonus.

In response to a Freedom of Information request, UCA identified Scott Roussel of Conway, Rush Harding III of Little Rock, Randy Sims of Conway, and former trustees Michael Stanton of Wooster and Conrad Garner of Harrison as those whose children have benefited from the unwritten practice.

The school says Roussel is the only trustee with a child currently getting the discount.

Governor Beebe and other top state officials now say the practice should at least be put in writing.

Almost ALL colleges and universities in the United States of America offer their professors and staff discounted costs to their children to attend the school.

Is there some kind of socialist CLASS ENVY being displayed by Channel 7?

These aren't staff and they aren't professors.  I know almost of of the people receiving the deep discounts.  Until now I was totally unaware of the discounts.  These are folks who are more than capable of writing a check for the full amount of their kids 4-year education.
