State Police Car Stolen, Crashed
posted 1:45 pm Thu February 28, 2008 - West Memphis
A motorist stopped along Interstate 55 allegedly stole and wrecked a state police car after a trooper had stopped to help him.

Trooper Gary Ladner stopped when he saw the white sedan Wednesday with a flat and found Marcus F. Course in the driver's seat. State police say the trooper asked Course to get out, and then ran a drivers license check, which came back suspended.

The trooper got Course's permission to search the car. State police say that as the trooper was searching the car, Course jumped into the trooper's cruiser and drove off. Course was arrested after he hit a construction trailer being pulled by a pickup.

He was taken to the Crittenden County Jail, where he faces charges that include theft of property, felony fleeing and reckless driving.
