Familygal, you're a blind idiot. It's been stated that he knew the people who shot him. He did something to deserve it. it's obvious.

My youngest child is a student at UALR and was in Ross Hall (the theater building) when the shooting occurred. My oldest child (an Air Force officer stationed in Iraq) called last night to check on us. When told of the events of the day, his reply was "An armed society is a polite society". Just a thought........

All I can say is WOW!!! I am confident that these racist and ignorant comments will be deleted, so, I won't waste too much of my time refuting them!! I will say that it amazes me that some of you believe that the victim was some sort of thug who was involved in a life of crime. Why is it that he couldn't just be an innocent bystander? Do you remember the fatal shooting on the NLR WAL-MART parking lot several months ago? The victim was a white male....did you assume that he was involved in a life of crime, thus resulting in his demise? Absolutely, NOT!!!!!! The victim in this case was on his way to CLASS...obviously, this alone speaks of this character, that he was taking responsibility in furthering his education. Some of you really need to pray and ask God to deliver you from this racist hatred that's been embedded into you.

Little Rock is becoming a literal battle zone! With elections far off on the calendar, maybe the citizens of Little Rock, should start a petition to recall the Mayor and force an election. Maybe they could find someone with the courage to clean up the City. There are way to many homicides each year and way to much drug traffic. In response to THA QUEEN concerned that calling these thugs is labeling them, I feel your pain. So let's call them Harvard Grads, or MENSA Candidates. Will that paint a smile on your face? If a person steals he's a thief. That's not labeling. That's a fact. If a person shoots a gun at a person with the intent to do harm, he's a thug. I hope they find these squid-brains and remove them from society immediately.

1. BAD NEWS DOES TRAVEL FAST. I called my mother who lives about 80 miles west of LR at 2:45 and 5 minutes into our conversation she said "Fox news channel is reporting that someone has been shot at the University of Arkansas." As I turn to Fox I noticed it was UALR. I got the information at 2:50 in Northeast Arkansas, 3 minutes before the students received a message by authorities on campus. 2. WHY ARE WE SUPRISED? I can't recall the number of shootings at the high schools in Memphis in the past few weeks. 3. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MATTER WHAT WE CALL THE ONES THAT DID IT? A crime was committed by a criminal. 4. WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS AND OTHER VILOLENT CRIMES? Some remarks were build more jails, put 2 in a cell and let them sleep in different shifts, etc. 5. MY OPINION. Since this article deals with shooting I will limit my remarks to that subject as other crimes need to be dealt with in similar fashion. First we need to ask for God's help. Next we need to realise that it took a long time for our society to reach this terrible situation we are in and it isn't going to get better overnight. It will take time but we MUST stick together to make a change. Next we need to teach our children that when a person is shot and killed they don't get up and walk away like video games portray. Better education is the answer for prevention which is a must to turn this around. Next we need to realise that we have allowed criminals so many rights that it is worth the punishment to commit the crime. Now that may sound strange but true. Lets not only make the punishment more firm but certain. If we stop associating with these criminals( it is called shunning in some countries ) we might not see a decline BUT our grandchildren will see it.

There isn't a quick fix BUT if we don't start working together soon there won't be any fix. I still believe there are more good people in America that bad and we need to show we are the majority.

Truth of the matter is, when most people hear school shooting, they automatically think some white kid has lost it AGAIN!!! Surprisingly, this time it was African Americans that committed the crime. Now let's re-evaluate the opening statements and the one made by maninthebox. Both are wrong. Narrow-minded thinking does not help either side of the community. Either way it goes ANYONE who shoots or kills innocent people, should be punished to the MAX!!! WHITE or BLACK!!! Whenever I hear of a shootong in LR/NLR, I assume the shooter/killer to be black. Sadly, I am right 99 percent of the time. If you people are so naive to think that violent crime has nothing to do with race, then just look at who's committing them.

I attended UALR in the 1990s. The area was beginning to decline around the campus. It's much worse now. Looks like the administration is going to have to ramp up security efforts on the campus. It's a real shame. We used to think of college campuses as generally safe places, but not anymore.

As a student at UALR, I received an e-mail at 2:33 p.m. NOT at 2:53 p.m.

UALR notified students by email @ 2:53pm not 20 minutes after the shooting. All entrances and exits to the university should have been shut down by 2:25pm. I promise that if this had happened @ U of A in Fayetteville that it would have been done more effectively and more efficiently. I am appalled!

As opposed to some who declare themselves judge and jury, in the lower regions of our state, I have had to live through the tragedy of this experience. I moved from a state where this is rampant to a smaller state where it is more rampant sadly. Thugs are thugs no matter where you live apparently. Until the REAL judges and juries take control we will have to dodge bullets and bats on a continuous basis. NO SCHOOL IS SAFE until we take our city back. No I am not advocating violence nor racism, just JUSTICE. I advocate prayer, and I ask GOD for help.

Nothing shocks me anymore. It looks like this kid was targeted. Other school shootings (colleges) where people have been killed were commited by former students. My guess is that these Thoughtless, Hopeless, Useless, Gangbanging, Slobs (THUGS) were out for revenge, and were not former students.

Yes, if you are shooting at someone because they stepped on your toe, stole your girlfriend, looked at you the wrong way, etc., I would consider you to be a thug. It is NOT because they are black.

It is just sad that the world has come to all of the violence that is going on today. We are seeing something like this almost everyday. The gun laws are useless. There is no way for the law to prevent the would be shooters from obtaining a gun. Should the day ever come that it is against the law to own a gun, we will be in trouble. I am sure there was some sort of interaction going on here that the two gunmen wanted to get back at this person that was injured. A drug deal gone bad? Who knows. I just wonder if the gunmen had kids going to that school, how would they feel should someone else do this, putting their own in danger. It doesn't matter what color these men are. What matters is that it happened and I suppose that should the man injured go after them, they will not learn anything. They will just go to jail, bail out and that will be that. If they do show up in Court, the will plea, probably instead of going and not get much time at all in jail. That is the thing. If we would have stricter laws, i.e. you have a gun on campus, minimum of 20 years, you shoot at someone or shoot someone, regardless of where the shooting happens, minimum of 20 years. We need to build larger jails/prisons to house these people who are dangerous and you know, have 1 bed, let it be a bed that will sleep 2 people, meaning, 1 person sleeps during 8 hours during the night and the other sleeps during an 8 hour period sometime during the day. Double Up. Why would this be against their rights. Hopefully one day we will have someone in politics that will change this stuff so that people who may even think about doing something like this will decide it isn't worth it b/c of what they will go through should they ever get caught.

My sister just called me with this news (I used to live in LR). It is a damn shame that this keeps happening around the country. She also told me about the boy yesterday who brought the gun to school and the fight at the park. These young people do not know how to resolve their differences---always thinking a gun battle is the answer.

They think they are so tough. I've been watching "The First 48" on A&E. Real crime. When the cops catch up with these thugs, put them in the interrogation room, the first person they ask for (while crying of course) is "mama." Then they are not so tough. They also showed Part II of "Banging in Little Rock" last weekend. Gives my home city a bad name.

Side note to parents: Stop buying your kids pants that are 3-4 sizes too large, t'shirts that will fit 3-4 people and designer shoes. When they get a job, make them save half or more of their earnings in an account that you help monitor, stop with the flashy hairstyles and jewelry, try to be at home at night instead of out in the streets yourselves.
