Talk about a unique way to say “Happy Valentine's Day.” High school senior Suzanne Ripley had a Valentine’s Day she'll always remember.
(Suzanne Ripley, Singing Valentine Recipient) “I was really shocked and really surprised.”
A singing valentine was a gift from her father, who says the family has been through some rough times lately, and he wanted to do something sweet for his daughter.
(Ripley) ”It makes me feel special, makes me feel loved. I should have known this was coming, because my Grandpa's in the chorus too, and my dad had asked if they would deliver to CAC--so I probably should have expected it, but I didn't think he'd really go through with it.”
There are seven Men's Barbershop and Women's Sweet Adeline Quartets that deliver more than 100 singing valentines from daybreak to sunset--every Valentine’s Day, for more than 25 years.
(Tim Copeland, Diamond State Chorus) “Sometimes we gotta wonder, ‘What did the guy do to feel like he had to do something to make up for it?’ But most women really appreciate it. They really do.”
And so do the givers.
(Scott Ripley, Suzanne's Father) “I was back there, just giddy as a kid! She had a big grin on her face, and I was back there, and when it was all done I had a little tear here, and I'm thinking, ‘Oh, this is great!’”
The singing valentines are an annual fundraiser for the Diamond State Chorus and Top of the Rock Chorus.
