A tornado watch now covers most of Arkansas. The watch is in effect until 10:00 p.m., and it covers all but the northeast portion of the state.
Severe thunderstorms are forecast for Arkansas Tuesday, including a chance that some of the storms will include supercells or tornadoes.
Most of Arkansas is under a high risk for severe weather as a strong storm system pulls out of Texas.
Warm and moist air will clash with cold air rushing in from the north to produce severe thunderstorms. The system responsible is slow moving, which will allow it to move into the state during the peak heating of the day.
The main threat will be high winds, hail, and tornadoes.
The Channel 7 weather team expects the worst weather to arrive in western Arkansas early Tuesday afternoon. It should then move into central and eastern areas around mid- to late-afternoon Tuesday.
Since this storm system is expected to arrive when many Arkansans are heading to the polls for Super Tuesday, voting early in the day is a good idea.
Colder and more stable air will arrive Tuesday night, ending the severe weather threat.
