Stuttgart - A Prairie County man faces charges accusing him of shooting at three people he thought were trespassing on his property, injuring one in the process, according to sheriff's deputies.
Deputies for the Prairie County sheriff's office say Jerry L. Earlywine, 61, faces first-degree battery and criminal mischief charges. Deputies said shots were fired at a car Sunday as it passed near Earlywine's home west of Stuttgart in far southwest Prairie County.
Four shots were fired at the car with a rifle, deputies said. One shot deflated the front right tire while another struck the driver, William Bumpus Jr., 19, in the lower back, deputies said.
The three occupants of the car got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
Earlywine was arrested Sunday but has been released until an arraignment on February 17th. Bumpus was treated and released from Baptist Medical Center-Stuttgart.
